Indoor Air Quality Solutions
What are indoor air quality products?
As a society we have never before been so conscious about our air quality. The air outside, in our homes, and in our cars, can have a great effect on our overall health. With so many illnesses, allergies, and other ailments becoming so commonplace it is important to pay attention to our indoor air quality. Indoor air quality products offer improvements to the air that we breathe. They include particle removal, humidity control, disinfecting, and other treatments.

Another telltale sign of a lack of humidity is when wood floors, wood furniture, and even the trim around windows and doors develop cracks and gaps. Wood dries and shrinks because moisture is pulled out. This causes damage to our property but more importantly this lack of humidity can negatively affect our health.
We can also see many adverse health effects of having too much humidity in a home. High humidity can cause excess growth of bacteria, mildew, mold, and other things. ERV or HRV fresh air systems control humidity in a home as well as air conditioning systems. Homes today are built efficient and “tight” and stale air and moisture get trapped in the home/building. This is best remedied by a fresh air system.

Do I have humidity issues in my home?
Lack of humidity is a major problem in New Hampshire, really any cold climate. The cold of winter and the process of heating our homes can cause our air to dry out substantially. Healthcare professionals have recommended that we should maintain a relative humidity level between 35-45% year-round to maintain good health. The lack of humidity in our air can lead to bloody noses, asthma-related issues, and excess coughing and dry throat issues. If you ever wake up in the morning with a “concrete face” unable to breathe through the nose, it could likely be a humidity issue.
I have allergies and asthma, what products would be best for me?
Breathing related issues are very commonplace today. Many people suffer from asthma and allergies, and these issues are often compounded in the home because of air quality issues. Many products are available to you to help with these issues. A high efficiency media air flter is the first step to getting rid of those particles in the air that are causing problems. The Trane Clean Effects filtration system is very efficient at removing particles from the air. The CleanEffects system is capable of removing particles down to .1 microns in size. A micron is a measurement of size. For example, the cold and flu virus is .3 microns, so the CleanEffects system can trap and remove cold/flu virus particles that are floating in the air. The CleanEffects is our first recommendation, but we also have other media filter options that offer a high MERV rating for particle removal period.
A UV light installed in the ductwork is also a great product to consider. One way to kill bacteria and viruses not only floating in the air but also that are living inside your ductwork and on the surfaces in your system is to install a UV light. There are several different manufacturers that we carry. There is some maintenance involved with them since the bulbs typically last a couple of years, but it isn’t too involved.
A REME HALO purifies the air using ions. This product has an Ionized Hydro-peroxide output, which gives excellent results when looking for fast kill rates for microbials in the air as well as on surfaces. A REME HALO reduces odors, VOCs, smoke, mold, bacteria, and viruses. REME produces oxidizers that are considered “friendly” because they revert to oxygen and hydrogen after the oxidization of the pollutant.

The iWave is another great product for air purification. iWave uses needle-point bi-polar ionization to create equal amounts of positive and negative ions. When these ions are injected into the air stream in your ductwork and the breathable air space, they break down passing pollutants and gases into harmless compounds like oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and water vapor.
iWave’s technology generates the same ions that nature creates with lightning, waterfalls, and ocean waves, etc. Nature uses energy to break apart molecules, naturally cleaning the air and producing a healthy environment. The only difference between the iWave’s technology and nature is that the iWave does it without developing harmful ozone.
