Do I have humidity issues in my home?
Lack of humidity is a major problem in New Hampshire, really any cold climate. The cold of winter and the process of heating our homes can cause our air to dry out substantially. Healthcare professionals have recommended that we should maintain a relative humidity level between 35-45% year-round to maintain good health. The lack of humidity in our air can lead to bloody noses, asthma-related issues, and excess coughing and dry throat issues. If you ever wake up in the morning with a “concrete face” unable to breathe through the nose, it could likely be a humidity issue. Another telltale sign of a lack of humidity is when wood floors, wood furniture, and even the trim around windows and doors develop cracks and gaps. Wood dries and shrinks because moisture is pulled out. This causes damage to our property but more importantly this lack of humidity can negatively affect our health.
We can also see many adverse health effects of having too much humidity in a home. High humidity can cause excess growth of bacteria, mildew, mold, and other things. ERV or HRV fresh air systems control humidity in a home as well as air conditioning systems. Homes today are built efficient and “tight” and stale air and moisture get trapped in the home/building. This is best remedied by a fresh air system.

A UV light installed in the ductwork is also a great product to consider. One way to kill bacteria and viruses not only floating in the air but also that are living inside your ductwork and on the surfaces in your system is to install a UV light. There are several different manufacturers that we carry. There is some maintenance involved with them since the bulbs typically last a couple of years, but it isn’t too involved.
A REME HALO purifies the air using ions. This product has an Ionized Hydro-peroxide output, which gives excellent results when looking for fast kill rates for microbials in the air as well as on surfaces. A REME HALO reduces odors, VOCs, smoke, mold, bacteria, and viruses. REME produces oxidizers that are considered “friendly” because they revert to oxygen and hydrogen after the oxidization of the pollutant.
The iWave is another great product for air purification. iWave uses needle-point bi-polar ionization to create equal amounts of positive and negative ions. When these ions
